The Vagabundos 2015 season closed off last night at Space Ibiza with a goodbye party full of energy and great vibes: Luciano and his gang looked back upon the summer on the Island with a big grin on their faces, enjoying the last dance of this leg of gigs.
The Cadenza man himself gave 110% on stage, his relentless clapping and waving unstoppable as his music: showcasing his selection of fat bass lines and synth melodies mixed with grooves, beats, a cappellas, shakers, congas, choirs and swings, Luciano made everyone move their body to the rhythm.
Ryan Crosson’s blend of House and Techno is inspired by the historical precedent set in his native city of Detroit and his adopted hometown of Berlin. His musical output is shaped by pioneering artists like Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson and Moodymann in the US, in addition to European heavyweights like Pantytec, Ricardo Villalobos, and Thomas Brinkmann.
Situated loosely between these two defining poles, alongside his partners in Visionquest - Shaun Reeves, Seth Troxler and Lee Curtiss - Ryan delivers an obsessive attention to the constant progression of his sound and embodies a ceaseless energy that carries itself from the studio directly into his live set and DJ performances. Last night we had another proof of his amazing artistic skills with one heck of a set.
Meanwhile, Valentino Kanzyani warmed up the room with a catchy selection of underground Techno mixed with some old school favourites. Michel Cleis’s penchant for creating summer hits struck again in 2015: his Marvinello track co-produced with Klement Bonelli has already been described by Mixmag as “The Track Of The Summer”: taking inspiration from an old Marvin Gaye song, its absolute catchiness makes it a total dance floor monster. Sir Pete Tong himself gave this massive airplay last year and this summer again, creating a huge buzz for it. The track is out now on Rebirth…. Grab it and you won’t regret it!! Needles to say, when he played it last night in the Sunset Room, it went off with a blast, with the people on the dance floor going totally nuts.
Dani Casarano’s role as Melisma’s A&R, a label that has become a synonym of emotive soulful Minimal Techno, which counts on artists like Ricardo Villalobos, Thomas Melchior, Fumiya Tanaka and Satoshi Tomiie among its contributors and avid supporters, showed up in the sophisticated lush funky sounds and earthly Latin American undertones of his set, which truly captured the essential combination of tribal rhythms, perpetual swings and seductive musicality.
Cadenza’s rising talent and Nordstern Basel resident Gianni Callipari warmed up the Sunset Room early on to great effect: his deep, synth-infused melodies were spot on for the time he hit the stage. Throwing in some still unreleased material from his upcoming Cadenza EP was a great move: the crowd gave an enthusiastic response to the tracks, so things are looking good for the young DJ and Producer right now.
We are looking forward to next season. Till this moment, remember… Vagabundos they name us, Vagabundos they call us,Vagabundos weare! See you in 2016!
